​​The Rodale Institute Pocono Organic Center is seeking an intern for the summer 2025 season.  This internship is located at the site of Pocono Organics in Long Pond, PA.  Through Rodale Institute’s partnership with the Pocono Organics Farm, we combine regionally focused research with educational support to farmers to increase adoption of regenerative organic certified practices and organic certification in the region.  Main areas of research at this location include soil processing and analysis, fiber hemp and hemp cover crops. Additional field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies may also be included.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Farm site visits and soil sampling
  • Conduct soil analyses including bulk density, compaction, infiltration, aggregate stability, etc.
  • Processing soil samples for nutrient analyses
  • Process fiber hemp samples
  • Collect pre-season soil samples
  • Conduct lab seed germination tests
  • Plant measurements throughout the growing season
  • Conduct plant analyses including weed identification, stand counts, pest scouting, etc.
  • Help lay out experimental field plots using GPS mapping, in-field measurements, and flagging
  • Assist with greenhouse seeding/transplanting and in-field transplanting
  • Tend and maintain field, greenhouse, and/or high tunnel experiments (using hand tools, weedwhackers, mowers, occasional weekend watering, etc.)
Candidate Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree, or undergraduate student with good academic standing from an accredited college or university
  • A strong work ethic, initiative, and motivation
  • Attention to detail and a high level of care
  • The ability to work well individually and in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in regenerative agricultural issues, practices, and/or research
  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
Additional Information:
  • Location: Rodale Institute – Pocono Organic Center - 1015 Long Pond Rd, Blakeslee, PA 18610
  • Compensation: Interns will be paid $15.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Interns work full-time for 12-16 weeks. Typically, the season includes late May through August or early fall.  Start and end dates are somewhat flexible.
