Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant will obtain, and process financial information related to Rodale Institute to assist in the completion of financial reports and statements. The Staff Accountant will participate in the monthly accounting financial statement close process, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions. The Staff Accountant’s additional duties will include fixed asset reporting and assisting the Senior Accountant and Chief Financial Officer with annual financial audits.

Essential Functions:
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail while performing daily, monthly, and yearly accounting tasks including posting standard journal entries, analyzing transactions and reconciling accounts related to the monthly financial statement close activities and assists with the financial statement preparation, in accordance with Accounting Policies and Procedures.
  • Processing invoices, managing accounts payable and accounts receivable balances, and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Ensure all ACH/wire transfer adhere to fraud policies.
  • Maintains a bi-weekly payroll process by reviewing time for accuracy, submitting payroll, and complying with all payroll related taxes across all locations.
  • Works with ADP to register new states in the system.
  • Manages all deductions and reporting for retirement contributions between ADP and TIAA
  • Handles Short Term Disability tax input in ADP
  • Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing general ledger accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Tracks fixed assets and prepaid assets, recording depreciation as appropriate and as per accounting standards.
  • Performs similar staff accounting functions for satellite locations to ensure consistent processes.
  • Coordinates, responds, and provides reconciliations and documentation support to the external financial auditors during Fiscal Year Audits.
  • Assist with the preparation of 990 Tax return which is in accordance with policies and procedures and IRS guidelines.
  • Ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant accounting regulations.
  • Other duties as required and assigned to ensure that all Rodale Institute financial information is recorded and reported in a timely manner.

Education and Experience:
  • Over five (5) years of accounting experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting.
  • Experience with Sage Accounting software and ADP payroll software strongly preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Analytical skills to interpret financial data
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
